Assail (acetamiprid)

The active ingredient acetamiprid belongs to the family of chemistries known as neonicotinoids. Acetamiprid interrupts the function of the insect nervous system by acting as an agonist (or promoter) of the nicotinic receptor on the postsynaptic membrane of the nerve cells. The compound has low mammalian toxicity (toxicity category III). AssailTM is active on sucking insects such as aphids, leafhoppers, leafminers, and pear psylla. In contrast to other insecticides from the neonicotinoid group, acetamiprid also possesses good activity against codling moth and Oriental fruit moth. The compound provides systemic, translaminar activity and is active as an ovicide through direct kill of insect eggs. AssailTM should be applied in a minimum finished spray volume of at least 80 gallons per acre using 1.1 to 3.4 ounces of the product (Assail 70WP) or 2.5 to 8.0 ounces of Assail 30SG per acre. AssailTM has a 12-hour REI and should not be applied less than 7 days before harvest (PHI = 7 days). The product is toxic to bees exposed to direct treatment. Currently, two formulations of the product, Assail 70WP and Assail 30SG, are available on the market.
