Site Selection and Soil Preparation
Site preparation and nursery tree selection are similar to that for apples (see
Orchard Establishment). All commercial sweet cherries (except Stella and Duke) are considered self-unfruitful. Tart cherry pollen will pollinate sweet cherries, but the bloom periods do not overlap. Tart cherries are self-fruitful and will produce commercial crops when set in solid blocks of trees.
