Foliar Application of Nutrients

The most efficient way to apply nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium is by ground application. Foliar applications of these elements should be viewed as temporary or emergency solutions only. Boron, zinc, copper, and manganese can be added by either foliar or ground application. The foliar method is usually preferred because very small amounts are applied per acre. Table 1-4 gives foliar application suggestions. The materials listed in the table are the most common and the cheapest, but other commercial formulations are available. Since formulations differ by manufacturer, it is essential to check compatibility of the material when mixing.
